Woodbury to conduct dog census

HIGHLAND MILLS — Beginning Dec. 1, the Town of Woodbury will begin an enumeration of all dogs within the municipality.
The last time the Woodbury conducted a dog census was in the 1980s.
There are currently 786 dogs licensed in the town although officials believe there are many more who are not.
Animal Control Officer Pamela Gambuti will be going door-to-door counting dogs.
License fees for dogs who have been spayed and neutered are $10 per year and $20 per years for animals who are unaltered.
If your dog is counted during the enumeration and it is determined to not be licensed, a onetime fee of $5 will be added to the cost of the license. Residents may avoid the charge if they license their dogs prior to be counted.
To obtain a license, visit www.townofwoodbury.com and look under the Town Clerk’s page. All dogs must have proof of a valid rabies vaccination and proof of alteration, if done. There is a discount for residents who are 65 years or older.
Residents who receive a pink card during the enumeration will be required to pay the additional $5 fee. All licenses submitted without this $5 will be returned. Residents will be given 30 days to obtain the dog license, after which a ticket will be issued for violation of Chapter 85, Article VI of the Town Code.
