Woodbury Historical Society offers two scholarships for town residents

HIGHLAND MILLS — Applications are now available for two scholarship programs sponsored by the Woodbury Historical Society: The 2012 Kirk Memorial Scholarship and the Constance Galberd Scholarship.

Kirk Memorial Scholarship Kirk Memorial Scholarship awards (formerly the Margaret S. Kirk Memorial Scholarship) have historically been given in amounts ranging from $500 to $1,000. Candidates must be current high school seniors who reside in the Town of Woodbury.

In terms of qualifications for the award, scholarship applicants are asked to demonstrate a strong commitment in one or more of the following areas:

Achievement in the sciences, social studies, and/or dramatic arts.

Service to school and/or community demonstrating compassion and altruism, as well as integrity, excellence and leadership.

Intellectual curiosity and creativity.

Application forms and instructions are available from the Guidance offices at the Monroe-Woodbury, Cornwall, and Burke High Schools, the Highland Mills and Central Valley Public Libraries, and directly from the Woodbury Historical Society for students who are home-schooled.

Completed materials should be sent to guidance as soon as possible.

Constance Galberd Memorial Scholarship

The Constance Galberd Scholarship is awarded to a current or former graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School who seeks to study for a career in nursing. Students interested in applying should contact the M-W High School Guidance Department, or if that is not possible, the Woodbury Historical Society at 928-6770, 928-2613 or 928-9249.

The application should include a detailed resume, a short summary of your intended use of the scholarship, recommendation letters, your transcript, accompanied by the form on the reverse, signed by parent or guardian, releasing information to the scholarship committee. In addition the applicant should include a brief statement showing evidence of strong commitment in the following areas:

Achievement in the sciences and/or health care.

Service to school and/or community demonstrating compassion and altruism, as well as integrity, excellence and/or leadership.

Intellectual curiosity and creativity.
