— Sixteen elementary school students from five schools were named first-place winners of a poster contest for their award winning artwork depicting fire prevention safety awareness.

This year’s National Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest’s theme was “Have Two Ways Out.” These first place winning students will each receive a Michael J. Fitzula Jr. trophy for their artistic interpretation of the contest’s theme.

The contest is sponsored by the Harriman, Lakeside, Monroe and Woodbury fire departments in partnership with the five elementary schools.

Trophies will be presented to the winners from firefighters and school officials at an upcoming Monroe-Woodbury Board of Education meeting.
