Tuxedo will mark Memorial Day on Monday with parade and community picnic

TUXEDO — American Legion Tuxedo Post No, 293 will host Memorial Day services on Monday, May 28. The Tuxedo Park Library’s ninth annual Memorial Day Community Picnic will follow. Here’s the schedule:

Morning services at the Old Southfields School

9:45 a.m. Line up at monument. 10 a.m. Invocation and the placing of wreaths.

Parade 11 a.m. Assembly on the Tuxedo public school grounds

11:30 a.m. Step-off. Order of March: Tuxedo American Legion Post No. 293 Marshall - Col. Russ Vernon

Post 293 Color Guard, auxiliary, clergy and honored guests, veterans, Tuxedo Band, Brownie Troop, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, senior citizens, Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Tuxedo Joint Fire Departments and Auxiliary.

War Memorial on Route 17: Placing of wreaths.

Closing ceremonies will be held at noon at St. Mary’s-in-Tuxedo Episcopal Church

Master of Ceremonies the Rev. Elizabeth McWhorter

Invocation, Pledge of Allegiance by the Boy Scouts, singing of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” by Mary Jo Guichard.

Guest speaker: Thomas Wilson “God Bless America” sung by Nina Guichard

Benediction, list of names, gun salute and the playing of “Taps.”

The community picnic begins shortly thereafter at the Tuxedo Park Library, which will feature custom photography by Dragonfly Studio, food, DJ, games, bounce maze, basketball toss, cover photo contest and raffle prizes.

At 12:30 p.m., magician Steve Woyce will perform.

At 1:30 p.m., Tuxedo’s version of American Idol will showcase local talent.

Then at 2:30 p.m., the afternoon will wind down with the announcement of the winners of the raffles and other contests.
