TUXEDO — Tuxedo Kindergarten Registration for the 2013/14 school year has two components:

An orientation for parents will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, in the George Grant Mason School.

The parent orientation will acquaint parents with teachers, the school nurse, the school day and provide aid in the process of completing the registration packet which will be distributed at the time of the orientation. All completed packets are due back the day of a child’s screening/registration appointment.

Kindergarten screening/registration held Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

The screening/registration allows parents the opportunity to register his or her child and to have the child go through the screening process to determine the child’s readiness for school. This appointment can be made on the day of the parent orientation.

Parents are required to bring to registration signed proof of the following: birth certificate and current immunization record. The following vaccines are required for a child to attend school in September:

Three doses of Diphtheria Toxoid, Tetanus Toxoid and Pertussis vaccine DTaP, DTP

Three doses of Polio Virus vaccine

Two doses of measles containing vaccine

One dose of mumps and rubella (two MMR’s are preferable)

Three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine

One dose Varicella vaccine or proof of disease

In some instances, doctor-verified disease histories (for mumps, chicken pox or measles) or blood titers (for measles, mumps or rubella) are accepted as evidence of immunity.

A parent seeking an exemption based on religious or medical reasons must see the nurse to get the proper documentation procedure.

To be eligible for kindergarten, the Tuxedo Board of Education policy states that a child must be five years old on or before Dec. 1, 2013.
