ALBANY — The New York State Thruway Authority is looking for farmers and growers to participate in “Tailgate Farmers Markets" at some of the highway system's more than two dozen travel plazas.

Thruway Authority officials say the markets will operate from mid-May through Nov. 1 at selected travel plazas, depending on the availability of product.

The program is limited to New York farmers and growers of locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables, edible herbs, cider and horticultural products. Only produce grown or produced in New York state may be sold at the farmers markets.

Thruway officials say the Tailgate Farmers Markets are intended to offer fresh New York farm produce to travelers, to provide farmers and growers with another outlet for their products, and to promote the state's agricultural industry.
