TUXEDO — You did not need to be an “astrophysicist” to participate in the ninth annual spelling bee at the George Grant Elementary School, but you did have to know how to spell “carbohydrates.”

There was a great deal of excitement at The George Grant Mason Elementary School on May 17 when the 3-6th grade classes gathered for the ninth annual school spelling bee.

The twelve finalists in the event had won in their grade 4-6 classroom bees. Words were selected from the Scripps National Spelling Bee study guide.

The final four winners for the 2012 School Spelling Bee were:

Kaitlyn Brown, grade 5 (first place).

Madeline Gedvila, grade 6 (second place).

Katiana Arcuni, grade 5 (third place).

Madison Spivak, grade 4 (fourth place).

The winning words were “astrophysicist” and “carbohydrates.”

The Tuxedo PTO gave gift certificates from Barnes and Noble to the winners.
