Stephen Hunter Jr. announces bid for Orange County Legislature

— Stephen Hunter Jr. has been endorsed by the Orange County Democratic Committee to run for Orange County Legislature in District 5.
Republican Katie Bonelli currently represents the Village of South Blooming Grove and parts of the towns of Blooming Grove, Monroe and Woodbury.
Hunter has also received the endorsement of the Woodbury Democratic Committee, and the Blooming Grove Democratic Committee)
In a press release announcing his candidacy, Hunter said there needs to be more transparency and progressive ideas in all levels of government.
“We can no longer rely solely on our national and state-wide elected officials to represent and protect our interests,” said Hunter. “Many of us are frustrated by the gridlock and partisan posturing in Washington, but sadly this is exactly what is happening here in Orange County.
“I am running because the people of Blooming Grove and Woodbury need a stronger voice, and the people of Orange County deserve better," Hunter added.
BackgroundHunter was born and raised in Blooming Grove and graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School in 1998.
He has a business degree from Boston College and a master’s degree from Columbia University.
Hunter has worked as a human resources professional for the past 15 years in the fashion and beauty industry. He is a current member of the Woodbury Democratic Committee.
His political activity has been part of his life since he was at school. He interned for the former U.S. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan and former U.S. Congressman Maurice Hinchey. Recent campaigns on which he has worked include Sean Patrick Maloney for U.S. Congress and Chris Eachus’ campaign for State Senate.
In the fall of 2016, Hunter also campaigned for James Skoufis – who represents the 99th Assembly District.
