Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education Center announces award and scholarship winners

MIDDLETOWN — The Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education Center honored 791 students on June 20 during its annual Student Recognition Ceremony at the SUNY Orange Gymnasium in Middletown.

Seven hundred ninety one students were honored for completing their various occupational programs at the Career and Technical Education Center.

Two hundred ninety-two students who demonstrated a specific competency on an Industrial Standard Assessment were recognized with a Technical Endorsement on their high school diploma. This distinction is the technical equivalent of graduating with academic honors.

During their two years attending CTEC, many students earned as many as 20 college credits to jump-start their post-secondary education. More than $17,000 in scholarships for outstanding performance and community service was also awarded to students during the evening ceremony.

Outstanding student One of the highlights each year is the recognition of the Outstanding Student Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards as well as the CTEC Service Award.

This year, the Outstanding Student Gold Award, CTEC’s highest honor, was presented to Greg Kula. He is a graduate from Monroe-Woodbury High School and a carpentry student in the Construction Careers Academy.

Nicholas Ewanciw of Minisink Valley High School and a student in the Engineering Careers Academy, was the Outstanding Student Silver Award winner.

Andrew Lakis, of Chester Academy, a New Vision Law student, received the Outstanding Student Bronze Award.

Daniel Fratto of Minisink Valley, graduating from the Visual Arts and Communications Careers Academy, was the recipient of the CTEC Service Award.

Brian Fagan: New Vision Law and Government – Achievement Award.

Jesse Finn: Carpentry – Achievement Award.

Gabriela Gonzalez: E-Business – Wallkill East Rotary Scholarship, Outstanding Academy Award.

Hunter Naphegyi: Electrical – Outstanding Program Award.

Jami Sparks: E-Business – Outstanding Program Award.

Monroe-Woodbury Emily Ampel: New Vision Education – Robert J. Hunter Memorial Scholarship.

Jennifer Biktjorn: Education and Management – Achievement Award.

Vincent Coffey: Workplace Learning/Maintenance – Achievement Award.

Gregory Kula: Carpentry – Outstanding Student Gold Award, Outstanding Academy and Outstanding Program Awards.

Maximillian Lancaster: Culinary – Vicki J. Gamma Memorial Scholarship.

Allie Montross: Cosmetology – CTEC Scholar Award, Thomas and Doris B. Christopher Memorial Scholarship.

Michael Reph: HVAC Plumbing – Arthur C. Schindler Scholarship, Outstanding Program Award.

Amanda Schuepfer: New Vision Education – Outstanding Program Award.

Charles Sheeran: Auto Technology – Shawangunk Snowmobile & Rescue Club Award, Outstanding Program Award.

Elaine Torres: Education and Management – Thomas and Doris B. Christopher Memorial Scholarship.
