MONROE — Orange and Rockland Utilities Inc. plans to spend $2 million to install approximately 8,000 feet of new plastic gas main from Lakes Road to Route 17M in Monroe beginning in early June.

The route will travel along Mack Place, Round Lake Terrace, Hillside Terrace, Charlotte Place, Crescent Place, Mid Oaks Street, Chatham Road, Summit Street and Sweezy Place.

The six-month-long project will replace steel gas main and services, most of which date back to the 1950s, with high-tech plastic main, which is more corrosion- and leak-resistant than steel main. The project, which is part of the utility’s continuing investment to support economic growth in Orange County by enhancing the safe and reliable operation of its gas distribution system, is designed to provide for the dependable and efficient operation of O&R’s gas distribution system for all of Monroe.

Work on the project will be performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic control will be supervised by flaggers when necessary.
