Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation allowing the Town of Woodbury to continue receiving its existing funding stream from local hotels and motels.

Assemblyman Colin Schmitt worked with town officials and his partners in government to pass this legislation in the Assembly earlier this year.

Schmitt said the legislation "will help the Town of Woodbury fund essential services without placing a burden on local taxpayers.”

Woodbury Town Supervisor Frank J. Palermo said the town charges a 5 percent tax on all rooms rented at the two hotels in town- Americas Best Value Inn and the Hampton Inn, both located in Central Valley.

"Our annual amount collect is a little more than $300,000 the past two years," Palermo said. "It has been a big ticket item for our budget. The town is looking forward to the day when we have what could be seven hotels."

In May, Woodbury Common Premium Outlets outlined new details of its proposed expansion in Central Valley that included pads for two 120-room hotels.
