CENTRAL VALLEY — On Saturday, March 11, the Monroe-Woodbury School District hosted the second annual Orange County Elementary Special Olympics at the high school.
In addition to Monroe-Woodbury, six other districts participated: Chester, Cornwall, Middletown, Orange/Ulster BOCES, Valley Central and Washingtonville.
The athletes from each school competed in a variety of timed basketball and soccer skills.
The event culminated with an exciting awards ceremony, where each athlete was awarded a ribbon or medal for his or her performance.
It was an amazing day filled with school spirit, great sportsmanship and team camaraderie.
Many wonderful students and staff volunteered to keep scores, time the athletes, and assist them through each event.
Others came simply to show their support and to cheer on these amazing kids. It was a beautiful day of recognition for the hard work, dedication and incredible athletic achievement of these very special children.
