Monroe residents Tom and Janet Sullivan to be honored as extraordinary volunteers

MONTGOMERY — The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan will honor Monroe residents Tom and Janet Sullivan as extraordinary civic leaders and volunteers.
The Sullivans are committed to multiple charities and causes, including Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. They are philanthropists and friends who have impacted the lives of many.
Their successes will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 15, during the foundation’s annual reception from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Anthony’s Pier 9, where the Sullivans will be presented with the foundation’s David T. Cocks Award for Commitment to Community.

Helping others, in many waysThe Sullivans are both passionate about helping others. He is a funeral director and past president/owner of Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Homes in Monroe and Highland Mills, and the William F. Hogan Funeral Home in Highland Falls. He is also a past chairman and current member of the Board of Directors of Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties.
Both Tom and Janet believe in sharing and giving back to the community, serving on several respective boards, such as Hospice Auxiliary, Southwinds, Orange County Fire Advisory, Monroe Architectural Appearance Review and receiving countless awards, such as the Cornell Award in 2008, the Goodwill Ambassador Award, the Bob Bonney Volunteer of the Year Award in 2000, the FASNY Firemen’s Community Service Award in 2008, and many more.
Community ServiceTogether, Tom and Janet received the Lumiere de Sacre Coeur Award from Sacred Heart Church in Monroe, as well as the Pillars of the Community Award from the Greater Hudson Valley Health Care Center, 2015 Thomas Clyne Citizen of the Year Award, 2015 Make-A-Wish Kitty & Frank Shankwitz Award and in 2016, Inspire’s Bill Devitt Shining Stars Award.
Tom is a 36-year member, former chaplain, past president and past chief of the Mombasha Fire Company in Monroe, while Janet has served on several committees over the years, including the Orange County Chamber of Commerce Snow Ball Committee, as well as the Orange Regional Medical Center Gala Committee.
