    Blood drive today

Because New York is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage, Sen. James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) is partnering with the New York Blood Center to host a blood drive on Friday, Aug. 20, from noon-6 p.m.

The drive will take place at the South Orange Family YMCA, 45 Gilbert Street Extension in Monroe.

    Community BBQ

The Village of Monroe and South Orange Family YWCA are hosting a community BBQ Saturday, Aug. 21, beginning at 4 p.m. on Lake Street between the ponds.

The event includes something for everyone. Buy a burger from the Fire Department, play some field games with the Y, express your inner artist with Monroe Free Library’s sidewalk chalk, paint a rock with the Girl Scouts, buy some snacks from the Sacred Heart Parish Outreach, let the kids Touch A Truck and meet Monroe PD’s K9 Keen and Police Officer Berke.

Bring some chairs or a blanket for the evening’s concerts. Victoria Lopez will appear from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and the Killer Joe Band is on from 6-9 p.m.

Yard sale to support Hadassah Hospital

Monroe Hadassah will hold a massive yard sale on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 298 Cromwell Hill Road starting at 9 a.m.

Members have been getting items together for the past year and have accumulated some real treasures. Everyone who stops by should find something of interest.

In case of rain, it will be postponed to a later date.

All the money raised will go to support the medical research and humanitarian aid of Hadassah Hospital.
