CENTRAL VALLEY — The Monroe-Woodbury School District will be one of 13 school districts participating in the annual Odyssey of the Mind Region 5 Tournament tomorrow, March 10, at Orange-Ulster BOCES in Goshen.
It's the 38th year the district has sent teams to competition, with many of them advancing to world competition, the only international competition Monroe-Woodbury participates in annually.
Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics and bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world level.
Thousands of teams nationwide and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
For now, the goal is to win their respective divisions and advance onto state competition at SUNY Binghamton.
All teams have a budget range of $125 to $145 to use to create props or purchase materials to support their efforts.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college.
