Kindergarten orientation set for Dec. 13

TUXEDO — The Tuxedo School District will hold an orientation for parents of students entering kindergarten in September on Thursday, Dec. 13, at the George Grant Mason School.
The orientation is designed to acquaint parents with teachers, the school nurse, the school day and provide aid in the process of completing the registration packet which will be distributed at the time of the orientation.
All completed packets are due back the day of a child’s Screening/Registration appointment on Wednesday, May 1.
The screening/registration is designed to allow parents the opportunity to register his/her child and to have the child go through the screening process to determine the child’s readiness for school.
This appointment can be made on the day of the parent orientation.
Parents are required to bring to registration signed proof of the following:
Birth Certificate.
Current Immunization record.
The following vaccines are required for your child to attend school in September:
• 3 doses of Diphtheria Toxoid, Tetanus Toxoid and Pertussis vaccine, DTaP, DTP
• 3 doses of Polio Virus vaccine
• 2 doses of measles containing vaccine
• 1 dose of mumps and rubella (2 MMR’s are preferable)
• 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine
• 1 dose Varicella vaccine or proof of disease
• In some instances, doctor-verified disease histories (for mumps, chicken pox or measles) or blood titers (for measles, mumps or rubella) are accepted as evidence of immunity.
Parents seeking an exemption based on religious or medical reasons should see the nurse to get the proper documentation procedure.
Essential information
To be eligible for kindergarten, the Tuxedo Board of Education policy states that a child must be five years old on or before Dec. 1, 2013.
