He graduated the Orange County Police Academy in 1998 and immediately began working in the Village of Monroe as a police officer.
Watson has been with the Town of Woodbury Police Department since April 2000. He was promoted to sergeant in September 2003.
Watson graduated from The FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and has attended several leadership seminars/training from The International Association Chief of Police, The Southern Police Institute and Penn State University.

The position had been vacant for more than a year after the Town Board suspended Richard Vasquez; he resigned in February.
Lt. Arthur Abbott has been acting chief since then.
