Highland Mills. Woodbury presents veteran Philip Morello Sr. with the key to the village
Mayor Andrew Giacomazza and Junior Deputy Mayor Noah Patrick Smith presented Philip Morello Sr. with the Key to the Village of Woodbury for his years of service to the community at last week’s Woodbury Village Board meeting.
Giacomazza highlighted key moments from Morello’s life, including his service with the 173rd Airborne Division in Vietnam.
He went on to speak of Morello’s contributions to the village since he and wife moved to Woodbury in 1974 and went on to raise five children.
Morello served as a manager for the Monroe-Woodbury Little League for 25 years and 38 years working on the Memorial Day parade.
Giacomazza also thanked Morello for his advocacy for his fellow veterans.
“I wish to thank everyone. It was a pleasure. Whatever I did, I loved it,” said Morello. “I had to stop after a while, but uh I really didn’t want to stop I tried but sometimes you have to move on, and I love Woodbury.”
Meanwhile, on Saturday, April 12, Morello also was honored at ceremonies at Stewart International Airport for the Hudson Valley Honor Flights’ 35th mission.
Hudson Valley Honor Flight is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which “Honors American Veterans” for all their sacrifices. The organization transport these heroes to Washington, D.C., to visit their memorials at no cost to them.
