Girl Scouts share $2,400 in scholarships

MONROE — Seven Monroe women who are graduating from area high schools are sharing $2,400 in scholarships from the Monroe Girl Scout Service Unit.
Lisa Banville, Amanda Marks, Meghan Kern, Colleen Hickey, Katie Anderson, Lisa Iaccarino and Kelsey Neubauer have spent six consecutive years as Girl Scouts in Monroe and have earned wither a Girl Scout Silver Award and/or Gold Award.
The Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn, followed by the Silver Award, the second highest in scouting.
The young women submitted an essay, a letter of recommendation from either a teacher, coach or clergy member as well as recommendation from someone within the Girl Scout community.
Each year, the Monroe Girl Scout community selects scholarship recipients based on this criteria and a selection process.
The scholarships were awarded during the service unit's annual Leader Dinner on June 11.
