Garbage and recycling pick-up schedule announced
MONROE — The following is the garbage and recycling pick-up schedule for the Town of Monroe and the villages of Harriman and Monroe for 2015:
Recycling
All residents must recycle the following items:
Co-mingled
Tin and aluminum cans and foil
Plastic containers and cartons, including juice boxes, frozen food containers. Remove caps and rinse. Labels may stay on.
Glass, bottles and jars – clear, green and brown. Remove caps and rinse. Labels may stay on.
Mixed papers – newspapers, magazines, cardboard, junk mail, boxes, office paper, paperback books and telephone books. Tie in bundles no larger than 12 inches. Brown craft cardboard must be flattened and tied.
Do not put co-mingled items in plastic bags. The town provides green recycle containers to residents. An empty garbage can may also be used. Please label garbage can to indicate it contains items for recycle.
Single-stream recycling
Paper and co-mingled can now be combined and put curbside every Wednesday by 5 a.m.
Recycling bins can be picked up from the Town Highway Garage at 87 Mine Road.

Bulk and large item pick-up
One item per week
Acceptable items: Furniture, gas grill (no tank), hot water heater, etc.
Unacceptable items: Construction or renovation debris, tires, grass or leaves, computer equipment and televisions.
If you have more than one item per week, call the town hauler at 343-5566 or consult the Yellow Pages for a hauler of your choice. Dumpsters are required for construction debris.
There will be a charge for these services.
Bulk and large item pick-up begins the first Thursday in April and ends the last Friday in December.

Village residents: Every Thursday
Town residents: Every Friday
Freon must be removed from refrigerators, freezers (doors off) and air conditioners before pick-up and tagged by a professional.
Household garbage pick-up
Village residents: Monday and Thursday.
Town residents: Tuesday and Friday.
Holiday scheduling
There will be no garbage/recycle pick-up on the following holidays:
Monday, May 26, Memorial Day
Monday, Sept. 9, Labor Day.
Thursday, Nov. 26, Thanksgiving.
Friday, Dec. 25, Christmas.
The entire week will shift one day. For example, the village pick up will be Tuesday and Friday and the town pick up will be Wednesday and Saturday. Recyclables will be picked up on Thursday in both village and town.
