Fire destroys Monroe home to family of eight
MONROE — Orange County fire officials and the State Police are investigating a house fire that displaced eight people Saturday night.
The 5,000-square foot, two-story home on 3 Darra Court, off Cromwell Hill and Quaker Hill Roads in Monroe, was destroyed, Monroe Fire Chief George Linderman said.
Although what caused the fire in unknown, the fire apparently started in the rear of the second floor, the chief said.
Firefighters were at the scene from 10:20 p.m. Saturday until 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
The incident attracted volunteers from 10 fire companies, included Mombasha, Harriman, Lakeside, Woodbury, Tuxedo, Chester, Goshen, Salisbury Mills, South Blooming Grove and Washingtonville.
The displaced family includes six children and two adults. The homeowner of record is Rapaj Kastriot.
