‘Feile Peil Na NOG’ Division 4 champs

Elizabeth Myers, left, and Niamh Bowden are members of the New York State U14 Ladies Gaelic Football team which won first place in the recent “Feile Peil Na NOG,” or festival football of the youth, in Dublin, Ireland. The team won against other Irish teams and American teams who traveled to Ireland for the tournament. Myers, a seventh-grader at Monroe-Woodbury Middle School, and Bowden, a Monroe-Woodbury High School ninth-grader, were part of the 24-member team which eventually won the tournament’s final game against County Down and was named Feile Division 4 Champions. The score was New York 0-3 (meaning zero goals and three points) and County Down 0-1 (zero goals and one point). Locally, the girls also play in the St. Brendan’s Gaelic Football League based in Monroe. Elizabeth is a fullback and center while Niamh is a fullback and left back.
