— Democrat James Skoufis won the race for the state Assembly’s 99th District, in unofficial results reported in Orange and Rockland counties.

His Republican opponent, Kyle Roddey, the Village of Goshen mayor, won more votes in Rockland than Skoufis did. But Skoufis, a member of the Woodbury Town Board, pulled ahead significantly in Orange:

Skoufis will take the seat now occupied by the longtime incumbent, Republican Nancy Calhoun, who is retiring.

He ran on a platform with job creation as his first priority. He said he wants to increase the minimum wage to $8.50 an hour, repair crumbling infrastructure, and change the way schools are financed.

“I’d like to get rid of property taxes completely and find a new way of funding local municipalities and schools,” he said during the campaign.



98th Assembly District

Annie Rabbitt, the incumbent Republican and Conservative from Greenwood Lake, won reelection for a fifth term in the state Assembly by defeating Monroe Town Councilman Gerard T. McQuade Jr., a Democrat who also ran on the Working Families line.

The unofficial totals were:

Rabbitt: 22,330

McQuade: 18,270



39th State Senate District

Longtime Republican and Conservative incumbent William J. Larkin Jr. of Cornwall-on-Hudson defeated Orange County Legislator Christopher W. Eachus, a Democrat who also ran on the Working Families line.

The unofficial totals were:

Larkin: 51,418

Eachus: 46,401



Monroe Free Library

By more than 500 votes, patrons of the Monroe Free Library approved its 2013 budget, which included an increased town contribution of $23,000 over this year’s spending. Next year’s budget will total $1,186,825.

18th Congressional District

Incumbent Nan Hayworth, a Republican, lost her seat in New York’s 18th District in the U.S. House of Representatives to Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney, according to The New York Times. The Times reports that 51.7 percent of votes went for Maloney and 48.3 percent for Hayworth.

Hayworth is serving her first term, which she won two years ago by defeating Democrat John Hall, who served from 2007 to 2011.
