MONROE — Monroe resident Daven Cuartas of Boy Scout Troop 440 has earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Hudson Valley Boy Scouts of America Council.

Daven’s community service project was to clean up and restore an area of land owned by the Monroe YMCA adjacent to the Heritage Trail and across the street from the YMCA facility.

He completed the project earlier this fill, creating a relaxing area for people who use the Heritage Trail for biking, running or walking to enjoy as well as an area for the staff and participants who use the “Y” to have lunch.

The project consisted of clearing a large area filled with weeds and grass, leveling the ground, laying down landscape fabric to make room for five yards of red mulch, building picnic tables, two bike racks and two benches to create a serene but useful area.

The young man would like to extend his utmost gratitude to the following local businesses for their contributions to his Eagle Project:

Laura Ann Farms: Mulch

Gervic Paints: Stain and rushes

Monroe Rentals: Power equipment

Planet Pizza and Amendola’s: Pizza for volunteers

Home Depot of Monroe

Family and friends for their donations to fund the wood and miscellaneous items needed to complete the project.

“Additional thanks goes out to Dave Rogers, Harry Hill, Jeff Manson, Mike Endrizzi and Bob Williams (leaders of Troop 440), Joseph Perez and the entire troop and scouts for their hard work and weekends devoted to making this project possible,” Daven said in the press release announcing his award.
