Consequences: Wear pink-ribbon socks, promote breast cancer awareness, win hockey tournament

TUXEDO PARK — The Mid-Hudson Valley Polar Bears helped promote breast cancer awareness through the simple gesture of wearing pink-ribbon socks.
Max Perlman, who plays left wing for the Polar Bears, took the initiative to purchase 15 pairs of the special socks at his school store.
“We wanted to do something nice for the team to support an important cause,” Max said.
Tuxedo Park School’s faculty adviser for the store, Darren Donaldson, stocked the socks to give students the opportunity to buy an item of clothing to wear for the school’s Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
“Our little store is full of Tuxedo Park School-branded inventory," Donaldson said, "but our school emphasizes character development and, for me, I saw this as an opportunity to provide the students with a product that would sell, but also focuses on something bigger than ourselves.”
The school store, called Bear Necessities, named after the Tuxedo Park School mascot, a black bear, sold out of the special socks.
The Polar Bears donned their socks for the Philadelphia Fall Classic Liberty Cup and won their tournament.
It was a great victory for the Polar Bears and breast cancer awareness.
