Graduation
Joseph A. Lofstedt of Monroe was among just 25 members of The University of Scranton’s Class of 2013 to graduate from the Jesuit university’s Honors Program. He received a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, with a major in early and primary teacher education. Lofstedt’s thesis was titled “The Effects of Teacher Immediacy and Behaviors on Perceived Teacher Credibility.” His mentor was Vanessa A. Talarico, Ed.D., an associate professor of education at the Jesuit university.

He also is among the 14 University of Scranton graduates who committed to work for long-term service projects with nonprofit organizations and underserved populations after graduation. Organizations and programs include Teach for America and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.

Lofstedt will serve with Teach for America in North Carolina.


Bobby Sheehan of Greenwood Lake graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with bachelor of arts degrees in political science and gender and women’s studies and a minor in history. He graduated cum laude, with a cumulative GPA of 3.62.


Nicole Zbylut of Monroe has graduated from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

Dean’s list

The following students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at SUNY Fredonia:

Chelsea Lyn Drake of Monroe.
Delia Patricia Ludington of Monroe.

Brittany Joan Toapha of Monroe.

Amelia Rose Wilson of Monroe.
Dean’s list students have earned a grade point average of at least 3.30 or higher for that semester out of a possible 4.0, while carrying a full-time minimum course load of at least 12 credit hours.


Thomas Schumann of Highland Mills completed his freshman year in the School of Business at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill. His major is finance. For both the fall 2012 and spring 2013 semesters he was named to the dean’s list.

To be eligible for the dean’s list a student must have achieved a Grade Point Index of 3.5 or higher for that semester and carried a minimum of 12 credit hours, earning grades no lower than C.

Thomas is the son of Christina and Walter Schumann of Highland Mills.


The students have been named to the Marist College dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester:

Anthony Cardone of Monroe, a member of the Class of 2015 who is majoring in business administration.

Jacqueline Frey of Monroe, a member of the Class of 2013 who is majoring in social work.

Jorge Medina of Monroe, a member of the Class of 2013 who is majoring in criminal justice.

Maureen Mullane of Highland Mills, a member of the Class of 2014 who is majoring in business administration.

Matthew Ruis of Monroe, a member of the Class of 2014 who is majoring in environmental science and policy - science emphasis.


Jacquelyn O’Malley of Monroe, a senior English secondary education major, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at the College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J.

To achieve this honor, a student must carry 12 or more credits that semester and have a 3.5 grade point average or above.
