Graduation
Daniel C. Monroe graduated cum laude from SUNY New Paltz in May with a bachelor of arts in psychology.

Nadler is a graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School.

Honors, programs, awards
Jaclyn Donovan of Highland Mills was recently initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Donovan was initiated at Western Kentucky University

Donovan is among approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Emerson College student Taylor Gilroy of Tuxedo Park, who’s majoring in Writing for Film and TV, secured an internship position in September 2014 at Atlas Entertainment. Gilroy will complete the internship study program in December 2014.

The internship is part of the experience at the college’s new facility located on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. Emerson was the first East Coast college to establish a residential study and internship program in Los Angeles. Since the program’s inception in the 1980’s, more than 4,300 students have participated in internships at renowned film studios, media outlets, marketing agencies and related enterprises in LA, which is also home to more than 3,200 successful Emerson alumni.

Kelsey Esselman of Harriman was a participating member of the SUNY Delhi Cross Country Team. Esselman is pursuing an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences at Delhi.

SUNY Oneonta senior Brynn Sussman was the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week in the last week of September.

Sussman, a 2011 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, is from Highland Mills. She played first singles at SUNY Oneonta last semester.

She concluded a tremendous run at the 2014 USTA/ITA Regional Championship held at the HWS Tennis Center in Geneva, playing in the finals of the consolation singles bracket.

Noreen Goldberg of Tuxedo Park performed Gustav Mahler’s choral masterwork Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” with The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia Oct. 30, Nov. 1 and 2.

They also perform at Carnegie Hall in New York on Oct. 31.

Goldberg is a student at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, N.J., and is a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir.

Composed of students at Westminster, the Westminster Symphonic Choir has recorded and performed with major orchestras under virtually every internationally acclaimed conductor of the past 79 years. Recognized as one of the world’s leading choral ensembles, the choir has sung more than 350 performances with the New York Philharmonic alone.
