Honors, awards, programs
Virginia Military Institute cadet Peter H. Buehlmann was among the approximately 1,500 who marched in this year’s presidential Inaugural Parade on Jan. 21. He is the son Mr. and Mrs. Armin Buehlmann of Monroe.
The Corps of Cadets marched through the heart of Washington D.C., from the U.S. Capitol Building to the reviewing stand at the White House. The Corps was the final group in the parade, passing the president in review at about 6:30 p.m. The cadets’ participation marked the 14th time that the VMI Corps of Cadets has marched in a presidential Inaugural Parade.
Dean’s list
Sean Thomas Egan of Highland Mills completed the fall 2012 semester at the Manhattan College School of Engineering in Riverdale with a grade point average of 4.0. That earned him a place on the college’s dean’s honor list for outstanding academic performance.
Rebecca Vitelli of Monroe has been named to the dean’s list in the honors program at the University of Delaware for the third straight semester.
In addition, Rebecca has been accepted to the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the university.
Kate Fitzgerald of Highland Mills has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at SUNY Cortland. The daughter of John and Grace Fitzgerald, Kate is a 2009 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School. Her major at Cortland is inclusive special education.
Andrew Tolosi of Monroe has been named to the deans list for the fall 2012 semester at the State University of New York College at Cortland. A graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, Andrew is majoring in sports management and is on the Cortland football team.
Megan O’Grady of Monroe has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at SUNY Cortland, where she is a recreational therapy major. A 2011 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, she is the daughter of John and Erin O’Grady.
Amber Melita, a resident of Monroe, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at Mercy College in Dobb’s Ferry with a 3.9 GPA. She is majoring in health science.
Laura Bakst of Highland Mills has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at Cornell University. A Monroe-Woodbury High School graduate, Laura is a sophomore in Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
The following students were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.:
Archibald L. Gwathmey Jr., the son of Archibald and Anne Gwathmey of Tuxedo Park and a 2011 graduate of Middlesex School, Concord, Mass.
Justin A. Meshulam, the son of Eliot and Shari Meshulam of Highland Mills and a 2011 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School.
A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean’s list recognition.
The following students were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 quarter at Dover Business College:

Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.8 or better with a minimum of 12 academic credits qualify.
The following students were named to the president’s list for the fall 2012 at SUNY Oswego:
Nicole Hoss of Highland Mills, a sophomore (business administration).
Victoria Scurti of Highland Mills, a junior (psychology).
Kristin Mayer of Monroe, a freshman (childhood education).
Jillian Phipps of Monroe, a junior (journalism).
Students who achieve grade averages of 3.80 and above on the 4.00 scale are named to the president’s list, the top 7.0 percent of Oswego students.
