CodeRED
HIGHLAND MILLS — The Town and Village of Woodbury has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed notification solution, which Woodbury officials said would provide them with the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire community. In their press release announcing the effort, Woodbury officials noted that one of the important features of the CodeRED system was the ability of individuals and businesses to add their own phone numbers directly into the system’s database.
On the list “This system can only be as good as the telephone number database supporting it,” officials said in their press release. “If your phone number is not in the database, you will not be called.” No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included. To sign up online, individuals and business may log onto:
The Town’s Web site: www.townofwoodbury.com; or The Village’s Web site www.villageofwoodbury.com.
Follow the link on either site to the “CodeRED Community Notification Enrollment” page.
Those without Internet access may call Town Clerk Desiree Potvin at 928-6829 ext. 7, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., to supply their information over the phone.
Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number, additional phone numbers can be entered as well. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers and/or those who have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number.
Uses This system allows geographically based delivery, which means street addresses are required to ensure emergency notification calls are received by the proper individuals in a given situation. The system works for cell phones too, but we need to have an associated street address to provide relevant messages. Samples of some notifications that will be sent out using this system include water restrictions, states of emergencies, evacuations and locations of emergencies shelters Woodbury officials said the data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes. Questions should be directed to Supervisor John Burke at 928-7578 ext. 3 or Mayor Michael Queenan at 928-7558.
