Christopher Berger appointed principal at Smith Clove Elementary School

CENTRAL VALLEY — Christopher Berger has recently been named principal of Smith Clove Elementary School in the Monroe-Woodbury School District.
Berger replaces Debra Turnquist, who announced her retirement earlier in the school year. He has been serving as Smith Clove’s acting principal since December 2014.
Previously, Berger served as a fifth grade teacher at Central Valley Elementary for ten years before becoming the assistant principal at Smith Clove Elementary for the past two and a half years. In this role, he was responsible for student discipline, teacher supervision, and a variety of program and school initiatives, policies and procedures.

"Mr. Berger’s knowledge of the inner workings of the school and its unique culture make him the best individual for this important position," Interim Superintendent Elsie Rodriguez said in the district's press release announcing the appointment. "He works well with the school’s faculty and staff, engages Smith Clove families, and cares deeply for his students. I wish him well in his new position and am confident that he will do a wonderful job."
His CV: Hartford, Fordham, LIUBerger has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Hartford and a master of science in teaching from Fordham University. He earned his certificate of advanced study in educational administration and policy from Long Island University.
