Central Valley. Finally, dresses bought, tuxedos rented and corsages and boutonnieres ordered

Monroe-Woodbury High School reimagined its Class of 2021 Senior Prom at the tail end of a pandemic school year by hosting the prom on its football field on June 25.

Only six weeks prior, the status of the prom was up in the air, keeping seniors wondering if they’d have this important rite of passage, particularly after their Junior Prom was canceled last year.

As conditions changed and restrictions in New York State were relaxed, officials announced the prom would be a reality.

Dresses were bought; tuxedos were rented; corsages and boutonnieres were ordered; hair and nail appointments were made; and students and their families were happily relieved.

And on a beautiful evening, hundreds of students gathered for a “different” prom featuring food trucks and music ... and “flat shoes” for the ladies.

Memorable it was for certain, as captured by photographer Bill Dimmit’s Images.
