Candidate Q&A: Andrew Ferraro for Monroe Village Trustee
The Village of Monroe’s election is March 18. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Village Hall Boardroom, 7 Stage Road, Monroe, N.Y. Two candidates are running for mayor, and four candidates are vying for two seats on the Village Board of Trustees.
Why are you running for trustee?
I am running so I can continue living out my life here, my son and granddaughter can as well. As a trustee I have been able to put into place laws that will protect the feel, beauty and ambiance of this village and still allow controlled growth. One such law was limiting the size of a structure based on property size. Welcome economic growth without damaging our character. All are welcome but not at the cost of those who have been here for years.
What are the top three things you aim to accomplish if elected?
Top priorities:
- To be sure that all feel welcomed and abide by the laws as everyone else does.
- Continue beautifying our parks. Complete Airplane park by moving our plane to its honored place and preserve it’s history. Next phases of Crane Park: adding a meandering walking path and seating areas where people can sit and talk to each other. Assist in bringing Smith’s Clove Park as a rival to all neighboring parks, an area where our community can gather.
- Continue keeping costs under control so all who chose to can retire here can. Fiscal responsibility is very important to me as shown by less then 1% tax increases each year.
Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I bring technical understanding in an ever-changing technical world. I had been in the Cable Television industry for 40 years, designing and building cable system. My last project is what brought me to Monroe. I left to join Request TV, first satellite delivered Pay Per View company as their engineer. With my team we were able to advance the industry by developing a means of showing multiple events within a 24 hour period. This system was unique enough that the company was awarded a patent. My love of music was fulfilled when I became a partner in Bodles Opera House in Chester. Though only holding 140 seats I was able to bring national acts such as Judy Collins, Jefferson Airplane, Jose Feliciano and so many more. I bring this experience to the summer concert series.
