Lions club offers college scholarship

    Monroe — The Monroe Lions Club is offering a college scholarship, in the amount of $4,000, to be used toward tuition over two consecutive years at either Mount Saint Mary College, Marist College, SUNY Orange or SUNY Rockland. Candidates must reside in one of the school districts of Monroe-Woodbury, Washingtonville, Chester or Tuxedo. Graduating high school seniors, or adults with a high school diploma, seeking to further their education by pursuing an undergraduate degree are eligible. To apply for the scholarship, candidates must complete a scholarship application, submit two proofs of residency, and prepare an essay of approximately 150 words, describing all the community service activities in which the applicant has participated. School-related service activities may also be included. The Monroe Lions Club is a non-profit, volunteer organization, that also provides eyeglasses and hearing aids to needy adults and children, food baskets during the holiday seasons, financial support for families during difficult times, and free health screenings throughout the community.
