Library offers spring adult computer classes
Woodbury The following beginner and intermediate level adult computer classes will be held at the Highland Mills branch of the Woodbury Pulic Library, and led by Nancy Wendt, computer reference technician and instructor. Using the Online Library Catalog will show how to search for materials, place requests, check your library card account and more. Students must be mouse proficient. Wednesday, April 5, 6 to 9 p.m. Introduction to Computer Basics (for IBM PCs) will offer an overview of computer hardware, software, mouse skills and Window elements for beginners. Thursday, April 6, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 6 to 9 p.m. eBay for Sellers lecture will teach how to sell almost anything on the world’s largest online auction site. Wednesday, April 12, 6 to 9 p.m. Introduction to Internet Basics will offer a discussion of Web basics, searching and navigation skills, and evaluating Internet resources. Students must be mouse proficient. Thursday, April 13, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 6 to 9 p.m. Email Lecture on the Who, What, Where, Why and When of electronic mail will include “What is Spam?” Thursday, April 20, 9:30 to noon. Wednesday, June 21, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Computer Basics II: The Next Steps lecture will include customizing your PC, file organization, anti-virus solutions, and more. Thursday, April 27, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 6 to 9 p.m. Introduction to Microsoft Word (two sessions) will show how to create, edit, format, print and save simple documents. Students must be computer literate and mouse proficient. Tuesdays, May 2 and 16, 9:30 a.m. to noon. Introduction to Microsoft Excel (two sessions) will show how to create, format, edit and manage simple spreadsheets. Basic formulas are also covered. Students must be computer literate and mouse proficient. Thursdays, May 18 and 25, 9:30 a.m. to noon. Microsoft Publisher (three sessions) will focus on the basic elements used to create brochures, calendars, flyers, and more. Students must be computer literate and mouse proficient. Wednesdays, May 26, June 3 and 10, 6:30 to 9 p.m. The Power of PowerPoint will discuss creating simple, effective presentations. Students must be computer literate and mouse proficient. Wednesday, May 31, 6 to 9 p.m. Intermediate Word (three sessions) will go beyond the basics into custom formatting, footnotes, graphics, and more. Students must be computer literate and know the basic elements of MS Word. Tuesdays, June 6, 13, and 20, 9:30 a.m. to noon. Intermediate Excel (two sessions) will discuss the next steps in creating, managing and using spreadsheets. Students must be computer literate and have taken Introduction to Microsoft Excel. Thursdays, June 15 and 22, 9:30 a.m. to noon. Make It Yourself Web sites (two sessions) will discuss creating simple web sites using Yahoo SiteBuilder software. Students must be computer literate and mouse proficient. Wednesdays, June 17 and 24, 6 to 9 p.m. Both branches of the Woodbury Public Library have new children’s computers. These computers have a kid-friendly keyboard and mouse, and are very easy to use. There is no Internet access or printer available, but there are educational games, and programs like Reader Rabit, JumpStart, Green Eggs & Ham, Stellaluna, Kidspiration, and more.
