Library offers more than books

MONROE-The library of today offers a lot more than books for community residents. In addition to being the information center of the town, the Monroe Free Library presents a variety of educational and service programs. Recently, patrons at the Monroe Free participated in a free "High Blood Pressure Screening." Professional health care workers from the Bon Secours Charity Health System brought their equipment to the Monroe Free Library and served a steady stream of patrons. Denise Murray, co-ordinator of Cardiac Outreach at Good samaritan in Suffern, and Andrea Studnitzer took blood pressure readings and distributed health care information. "We like to provide lots of different programs for our patrons," said Catina Strauss, head of reference for the Monroe Free Library, "We have a visit to Mark Twain's home in Hartford, Connecticut next month and a trip to Bermuda in May, along with many other great programs. Don't feel disappointed if you missed this blood pressure screening. We have a Blood Screening on Monday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can have your cholesterol, glucose, and blood pressure checked," said Mrs. Strauss.
