Library collects baby supplies
Monroe - Responding to the recent natural disaster in the South, the Monroe Free Library is collecting disposable diapers and wipes for Hurricane Katrina victims in Mississippi. The drive is spearheaded by library Board of Trustees member Barbara Zerner, who will ship the donated materials directly to an associate at the scene who is working with survivors. Materials can be placed in a special container near the circulation desk. The Monroe Free Library is located at 44 Millpond Parkway. For more information, call the library at 783-4411. Outback Choppers relief fund raiser Tuxedo - Outback Choppers in Tuxedo is hosting a fund raiser in cooperation with the American Red Cross to provide aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The event is Sunday, Sept. 11, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Outback Chopper shop on Route 17 just north of the Red Apple Rest. Entertainment will be provided by the Southern Justice Band and program features will include a Bikini Bike Wash, BBQ, bike contest, refreshments and a 50/50 raffle. A $15 donation is requested. Benefit concert Sunday at Sapphire Elementary Harriman - The Monroe Democratic Committee will host a Hurricane Katrina relief concert on Sunday, Sept. 11, at Sapphire Elementary School on Harriman Heights Road from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to benefit the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The people who will be performing at the Hurricane Katrina Relief Concert include singer-songwriter Denise Jordan-Finley; recording artist Rob Cannillo and friends; WJFF radio personality Aldo Troiani; WTBQ radio personality Jon Stein; and singer-songwriter Bob Barlow.
