Letter to a retiring judge

To the editor: As a former Harriman resident, I would like to call attention to the retirement of Justice Philip Caiazza. He is leaving the bench after 17 years. He first sat on the bench in October 1989. As a member of the community I would like to thank him for all his service during the years. Harriman ZBA member, Harriman trustee and deputy mayor, director of the Lake Regionaires, MW Little League baseball coach and assistant cub master. He also headed the St. Anastasia guitar group and was the advisor to countless rock bands. As someone close to him, I would like to wish him good health in his retirement. I know that some do not realize he is legally blind. He has also overcome cancer and heart surgery during his tenure and always returned quickly to the bench. He is a man of great integrity, honesty, dedication and values. His family is so proud of him serving his community for so long, but now celebrate the newly acquired time that they can spend with him. I know this community is a better place because of his work. As his son, I would like to thank him for being a great dad. Congratulations on your retirement, Judge. Thomas Caiazza Monroe
