To the editor: Background, experience and knowledge, combined with my organizational and management skills, clearly establish me as the best candidate for the position of Tuxedo Town Supervisor. Having served two terms as councilman in Tuxedo has provided me with a detailed and thorough knowledge of municipal government and particularly the unique challenges that are associated with overseeing one of the largest residential subdivisions on the East Coast which is being constructed in one of the most environmentally sensitive and historic communities in southern New York. In addition to the community leadership experience gained serving as police commissioner, volunteer firefighter and service organization leader, I have been involved in leadership roles beginning as a young 19-year-old combat fire team leader in the Viet Nam War to managing high risk technical activities in the nuclear power industry. I have many years of experience managing large groups of people involved in complex projects and have had financial responsibility for budget oversight of projects valued in the tens of millions of dollars. Tuxedo must have competent and professional leadership combined with efficient management and reasonable, attainable goals. I was an integral part of crafting a very comprehensive and rigid special permit for the Tuxedo Reserve Project. One of our biggest challenges in the coming years will be to ensure that the developer strictly adheres to our original intentions and their original promises. With my in-depth knowledge of the project and firm commitment to demanding conformity to plan, coupled with the best interests of the community, this project will be a success for all of our citizens. Although the remaining buildable land in Tuxedo is limited, I will not support any zoning changes that do not benefit the community. I am opposed to fundamental changes in established municipal law simply to benefit an individual business interest. However, I am very much in favor of and will pursue a strong and supportive relationship with the town’s business community. I am very much opposed to any frivolous spending by the town government. I do not support the rebuilding of the ruins of what were once a power plant on the Ramapo River. For expanding and enhancing town recreation, I propose to survey the community via a committee composed of citizen representatives from each district to recommend how the town should spend recreation resources going forward. I will be very fiscally conservative. I will maintain tighter control of town expenditures and function as a full-time Town Supervisor. Any less time investment in addressing the myriad issues in Tuxedo will be a disservice to the community. I will be available to all citizens with an open door policy. Our government will function more efficiently and business-like with equal consideration and respect for all of our citizens. William E. Lemanski Councilman, Town of Tuxedo
