Leadership for Woodbury - supporting John Burke

To the editor: Leadership is valued, yet sadly lacking in many aspects of our lives. We look for the leader in government, education, religion and society. Many times we are disappointed or frustrated with the incompetence, insensitivity and absence of compassionate and genuine interest for the common good by those in leadership. I have known John Burke, running for Town Supervisor of Woodbury, for more than three decades. I attest to his leadership qualities. My affiliation with John has been mainly through education. John was a respected classroom teacher, union president and chief negotiator for our contracts. He covered all issues fairly and completely. In time he became building principal, earning great respect from the staff, ancillary employees and especially the community. He won awards for his accomplishments and leadership. John Burke is fair and thorough. He does his “homework” and looks at issues from every angle. John is always prepared, knows his topics and researches issues before he speaks. He is a man of detail, hard work and honesty. He knows and cares about the issues which face Woodbury and has tirelessly researched them, attended meetings and spoken out fearlessly for what affects all of us. He is a man one can trust to lead. He and his family love Woodbury. Change is inevitable, but it must be controlled and directed by courageous leadership. Mary Porcu Highland Mills
