Monroe — As a colorful kickoff to the exciting Summer Reading Program, the Monroe Free Library invited patrons to display their creativity at the Annual Family Chalk Event on a recent Saturday. Artists of all ages filled the driveway and sidewalks around the library with their visions of animals, flowers, musical instruments and more. "Our community looks forward to Chalk Night each year," said Rebecca Lynn, head of children's and young adult services at the Monroe Free Library. " It has come to mean the start of our Summer Reading Program. This year's theme is ‘Tune In At Your Library.' We're expanding on this theme with concerts, crafts accompanied by the works of beloved composers, and storytelling with music." Information about these and other summer events is available at the Monroe Free Library, 44 Millpond Parkway, 783-4411, and on the library's Web site at www.monroelibrary.org.
