Judge Levinson deserves our continued support'
To the editor: On Aug. 20, 2005, my husband Edward Kellman passed away. For nearly 32 years prior to his death, Ed had served with distinction as Town Justice of the Town of Woodbury. For almost 28 of those years, Ed served together with his colleague and friend, Judge David Levinson. Ed and David’s relationship as co-town justices was unique and extraordinary. Although they were opponents in a 1975 campaign, they developed a strong friendship and allegiance that transcended politics. Together they ran a non-political court. Court personnel have been appointed based upon merit, not political affiliation. Both Ed and David were always available for each other to cover court when necessary and, equally as significant, they were available 24 hours a day to preside over arraignments for the Town of Woodbury Police Department and other police agencies like the Palisades Park Police, New York State Police and New York DEC, all protecting our town. Ed frequently discussed with me his pride in David’s dedication, efficiency, experience and judicial work ethic. My husband was confident that David would always be available to assist him when called upon. He knew that David was always there for him in any emergency. There was a mutual trust between them, that brought our town court to judicial prominence. Judge Levinson deserves our continued support. His tenure as town justice has been marked by firm and fair justice. I have no doubts that David will conduct his court with the same devotion as when Ed served with him. I know if Ed were here, he would staunchly support the re-election of his colleague and friend. I ask all voters in the Town of Woodbury, my neighbors and friends to continue to support David as Woodbury Town Justice. He has done the job for all of us for nearly 28 years. Let the tradition of a non-political court continue. Very truly yours, Jean Kellman Central Valley
