Goshen - There will be another test of the Indian Point siren system on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Two separate siren soundings will be made between 10 and 11 a.m. During the full-system activation test, all 154 sirens within the 10-mile radius of Indian Point Nuclear Power plants will be activate for three to four minutes. Sixteen of the sirens are located in Orange County in the Highland Falls area as well as in parts of the towns of Woodbury and Tuxedo. Late last month, a majority of the sirens in Orange County failed to sound during a similar test of the system; in September, none of the 51 sirens in Rockland County responded. Faced with increasing criticism from local and federal officials, Entergy Nuclear Northeast, owner of the two Westchester County power plants, has pledged to replace the system within two years.
