In support of Karl and Lesser

To the editor: I’m supporting John Karl and Charles Lesser because I believe they are both good, honest individuals with the best interests of the Village at heart. I believe that they will: • Work to keep businesses anchored downtown. • Work with the Library to maintain its location and their expansion efforts. • Work with the Parks Commission to map out plans for recreation activities for residents of all ages. • Keep department heads accountable for their budgets. • Do away with health benefits for all elected and appointed officials. • Work to improve and protect the Village of Monroe from outside interference and to preserve our quality of life. John and Charles have given much of their time and money back to the community, through their activities and contributions. John has been a volunteer for more than 28 years with the Ambulance Corps and Fire Department (served as Chief from 1994-99). He has refused health coverage and the health coverage buy-out during his two years as trustee and has contributed his entire salary from the village to charity. Charles is a second generation owner of Monroe Jewelers and is a member and past president of the Downtown Merchants Association. He also has contributed to and sponsored numerous Monroe-Woodbury Little League and Girls Softball teams and has given his time as a Trustee to the Young Adult Institute of Rockland and Orange Counties - which is an organization assisting developmentally challenged youth and adults. We need to support unselfish people like John Karl and Charles Lesser to work for us, too. Very Truly Yours, Tony Schmitt Monroe
