South Orange YMCA health fair is Saturday MONROE The South Orange Family YMCA will hold its first health fair on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free for all and the Y will waive the enrollment fee that day for any individual or family who wants to become a Y member. The day will feature giveaways from local vendors as well as Zumba, Pilates and Boot Camp demonstrations that all can participate in. Healthy snacks are for sale. All vendors are raffling off gifts throughout the afternoon. Y officials said the event will demonstrate to participants the benefits of exercise and healthy eating. Teacher Appreciation Day at the Book Garden is Saturday MONROE The Book Garden, the gently read book shop run by the Friends of the Monroe Free Library, will hold its “'Back to School Day” this Saturday, Sept. 17. A special collection of books will be highlighted. Teachers who bring their school identification from any school district can fill a bag with books for $4 instead of the usual $5 per bag. Tea fund raiser cancelled this Sunday MONROE The Lakeside Ladies Auxiliary tea scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Lakeside Firehouse on West Mombasha Road has been cancelled. Leprechaun hunt will be part of Gaelic football club’s new field opening on Sept. 24 MONROE The Monroe-based St. Brendan’s Gaelic Football Club will dedicate its new playing field at 379 Seven Springs Rd. in Monroe on Saturday, Sept. 24, beginning at noon. The day will include interactive tutorials on how to play Gaelic football in addition to entertainment by a local DJ and food catered by Ramblers Rest in Monroe. At 1:30 p.m., the first ever “Hibernian Leprechaun Hunt” will take place sponsored by the LAOH Division 5 and AOH Division 1 groups. Prizes will be awarded. All proceeds will benefit the Beautiful People organization to help the group build an adaptive sports field for children with special needs. Various Hibernian charities will also be among the beneficiaries. The AOH Pipes and Drums will lead the hunt. The AOH Pipe and Drums will also perform at 2:30 p.m. during opening field ceremonies. At 3 p.m., the U-10 St. Brendan’s vs. St. Raymond’s game takes place. At 4 p.m., the U-12 St. Brendan’s vs. St. Raymond’s game will take place. The Chris Turpin Band will perform from 4 to 7:30 p.m.; and at 5 p.m., the U-18 Game between St. Brendan’s and St. Barnabas will take place. There will be face painting for children and local artist Patrick Gallagher will give art lessons throughout the day. St. Brendan’s T-shirts will be available for sale.
