Haviland makes his case for Woodbury board
To the editor: Based on a number of inquiries concerning my political demise, I can safely say that such reports are extremely premature. I am still a candidate for Woodbury Town Council and hope that all of you out there will support my bid for this position with your vote on Nov. 8th. I truly believe that I have a lot to offer to the position of councilman and thus to the people of Woodbury. My expertise in public procurement should aid the board in acquiring material and services it needs by seeking greater competition and therefore attain greater overall savings. I contend that I can obtain more goods and services for what it cost Woodbury during the previous year. I have a well-developed leadership skill through my current full-time job as a manager as well as my 28 total years spent in the military. I am most capable in assessing a situation, seek out the necessary information in order to formulate viable options, and make a decision in an expeditious manner. Finally, I know that growth, like death, taxes, and (sad to say) inflation is inevitable. Without growth, a community would eventually wither like an unpicked grape on the vine. However, uncontrolled growth or even short-term growth explosions would be like a cancer to our town. As like a cancer, curing it once it has spread can be as damaging as the disease itself. Preventive medicine is the key to the success of a continuing thriving community. That medicine is a level of growth that can be met by the community’s infrastructure. Growth should never exceed the town’s ability to service accordingly. As a town grows, so should its infrastructure. A slow, steady growth, like a blue chip stock, far exceeds a flash in a pan - that will eventually get you burned. Additionally, a slow steady growth is economically attainable; a need to immediately catch up is not. By supporting me and Darleen Reveille for Town Council and John Burke for Town Supervisor, the patient called Woodbury, New York, should live a long and healthy life. Amidee T.
