Hasin states his case for village justice

To the editor: I am taking this opportunity to introduce myself to the people of Harriman. I am the Justice Party’s candidate to fill the Village Justice position which Judge Philip Caiazza is vacating after 17 years of service. The election of a judge, as opposed to other local political races, does not involve issues like property taxes, local roads, parks and recreation or who eats or gets their car washed in the Village. Rather, when electing a judge, the issue is, and always should be, justice. Can the candidate fairly and effectively administer justice? If elected on March 21, I recognize that I will have a tremendous responsibility to keep the Harriman Village Court strong and to help ensure that the court continues to meet its obligation to offer all litigants a fair and equal playing field. In this day and age, a Village Justice should be an attorney with a thorough understanding of criminal and civil procedure. I have devoted my legal career to the rule of law and the cause of justice. I am a founding partner of the law firm Isaacs & Hasin. My office is not in New York City or Rockland County; it is here, in southern Orange County, where I will always be available at a moment’s notice. Last year, I was elected judge in the Town of Woodbury. I am the only candidate for village justice who has actual judicial experience. I know what it takes to have a court run smoothly, economically and efficiently. As a zoning board attorney I drafted the special permits that ensured that Nepera operated safely. I successfully defended, in State Supreme Court, every single variance challenge that was brought on. As a local attorney, I had the privilege of litigating hundreds of cases in various justice courts up and down the Hudson Valley. My community activities have primarily centered on my children’s scholastic and athletic activities. I have been a coach and sponsor of the Monroe-Woodbury Soccer League. I am a member of the Central Valley Elementary PTA. My law firm is a sponsor of the local girls softball league. Prior to my service as town judge and zoning board attorney, I served a full five-year term as a Zoning Board member. No one person can “fill Judge Caiazza’s shoes.” His contributions to the people and Village of Harriman are well known. My pledge to the people of Harriman is, if elected, to continue the pattern of impartiality and independence. A commitment to equality for all is what I offer the people of Harriman. Please vote Justice Party Row “A” next Tuesday. I would be honored by your support on March 21. Thank you. David V. Hasin candidate for Harriman Village Justice
