Harriman residents to elect village justice on March 21
Harriman - Three competitors have announced their candidacy for the position being vacated on March 31 by Harriman Village Justice Philip Caiazza, who is retiring after serving on the bench for 12 years. A special election will be held March 21 to fill the office. The three candidates are: David Hasin, a 43-year old attorney with Isaacs & Hasin of Newburgh, is a resident of Highland Mills and currently serves as one of the town of Woodbury Town judges. Hasin covers arraignments in a backup role for Harriman. He said because no other attorney from the village of Harriman is running, he is interested in pursuing the position. Paul Serra, 67, is a retired professor of sociology at Orange County Community College. He has lived in Harriman for 25 years and has been a member of the Park and Services Committee. Serra said he believes he can have a positive impact on safety issues and village traffic control. He said he will reorganize the management of the judge’s office. Christine K. Wienberg is a 40-year old attorney in Monroe. She is a former resident of Harriman who has lived in Monroe for the last 12 years. Wienberg said she is interested in becoming a judge to broaden her experience and because she will enjoy the work.
