Halloween dancing, parades and pumpkin carving in Monroe starting tonight

    MONROE-The second annual pumpkin carving contest sponsored by the Monroe Joint Parks and Recreation Commission takes place during Halloween Fun Fest at Smith's Clove Park on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m, (rain date is Sunday, Oct. 31). Awards will be given for scariest, silliest and most creative carvings. The Fun Fest runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and includes a costume parade, games, hayrides, magic show and pumpkin painting. The recreation commission also is sponsoring a Halloween teen dance on Friday, Oct. 29, from 7 to 10 p.m. for young people age 13 and older at its office at Smith's Clove Park. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes. For more information, call 783-9108.
