Government should be based on facts and not presumptions'
To the editor: This letter is written in response to former Village Trustee Pete Scrobe’s letter in The Photo News dated March 3. Mr. Scrobe’s presumptions as to what Trustee Jeff Peifer was thinking when he declared himself a candidate for mayor are perhaps the reasons why Pete was defeated in his bid for mayor in 1998 by a three-to-one majority against present Mayor Joseph Mancusco. Government should be based on facts and not presumptions. To again assume that prior Village Board of Trustees were members of a tight-knit “boys club” could easily be construed as sour grapes due to a past landslide defeat Pete Scrobe endured to present Mayor Joseph Mancuso. I ran for Village Trustee independently with no party endorsements in 1994 and again in 1998 - not exactly your typical “old boys club” scenario. As far as lifetime health benefits at the village’s expense: The health benefits that myself and previous elected officials have been afforded are until age 65. In my particular case, this is six years when Medicare takes effect. So for once, Mr. Scrobe, stop the presumptions and misrepresentations for these are not qualities that personify a person of character. Very truly yours. Thomas M. Remo Trustee Village of Monroe
