Girl scouts to the rescue

Woodbury — Woodbury Girl Scout Troop 484 were able to pitch in and deliver. As the period from spring through winter is not the easiest season for food collection, local pantry selves are often understocked, including the food pantry located at the Highland Mills United Methodist Church on Route 32. Not so this year, after a coordinated effort that began when the health office at the Central Valley Elementary School on Smith Clove Road began a food drive during Healthy Schools Week. Students and staff collected hundreds of items. The hard part was getting the food to the pantry, and onto the shelves. That’s where the girl scouts, as well as their leaders, and the moms who offered to drive, took over. On Tuesday, March 7, they left in four vehicles, made a stop at Smith Clove to load up the bounty, and delivered it to the pantry. Once there, the girls set up an assembly line to unload cars, unload boxes, sort food, and get it on the shelves.
